Gomel customs post of Minsk customs with the number of staff of 3 units was created on the 14th of March in 1991 year.
Narinskaya Lyubov Pavlovna was one of the first who had been appointed the inspector of Gomel customs post of Minsk customs.

The significant growth in external economic relations has considerably increased export and import of goods to the Republic of Belarus. Since the 4th of May in 1993, Gomel customs post of Minsk regional customs has been transformed to Gomel customs with the number of staff of 156 people by the order number 113 “The creation of customs authorities”. Gomel Customs structure included such former posts as Zhlobin customs post (it was created in August of 1982 year), Gomel customs post (it was created in March of 1991 year) and Svetlogorsk customs post (it was created in October of 1992) of Minsk regional customs and again created customs posts: “Gomel Passazhirsky”, “The Selische - 1”, Krugovetsky, Kravtsovsky, Komarinsky customs posts. Then customs posts “Polesje” (it was created in November of 1993), Rechicky and Dobrushsky customs posts (it was created in March of 1994), customs post “Gomel Cargo” (it was created in June of 1994) were created.

Since the 1st of July in 1993 the first shifts of Gomel customs officers came to the part of border area with Russia and Ukraine; they controlled 415 km of customs border, including with Ukraine – 235 km from which 137 km of the border passing across the rivers.

According to the Order of The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus from the 7th of June in 1993 year number 156 such Customs clearance points as "Komarin", “Novaja Guta”, “Veselovka” were equipped according to the temporary scheme (2 car lodge are placed)
The list of internal Customs clearance points into the territory of the enterprises and the organizations such as “Druzhba-2”, “Sozh”, “Gomeldrev”, “Rechyca drev”, “Svetlogorsk – Himvolokno”, “Zhlobin - Metallurgical” were established under the basis of the Ministerial decree by the Order of The State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus from the 1st of June in 1993 year number 194.
In July of 1995 according to the intergovernmental agreement between Belarus and Russia, customs crossings on border with Russia discontinued their work (“Perelevka” and “Dobrushsky” customs posts were abolished).

Since April of 2000 year the customs has been granted the right to conduct operational and investigative activity.
In 1998 Gnatyuk Vasily Maksimovich was appointed the head of customs.

On the 31st of August in 2001 year the museum of customs history was created, it has become the center of patriotic education of the staff.

On the 15th of November in 2001 year the first start-up complex has been put into operation, and the ceremonial opening of all border check-point "Novaja Guta" was held on the 13th of December in 2002 year. Its construction was conducted since December of 1997 according to “The program of prime development of customs infrastructure on 1997 – 2000”. The object was financed from the budget of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.

According to the Decree of the President of Republic of Belarus from the 27th of September in 2004 year number 470 customs officers have taken the oath of allegiance to Republic of Belarus and its people for the first time.

Since 2004 the customs has acted as the curator of development of weightlifting in Gomel region.
Since 2005 academic years the specialty "customs affairs" has been opened at “The Belarusian state university of transport” on the initiative of the management of customs and with assistance of the Gomel regional executive committee.

In March of 2006 and February of 2007 customs officers Baydalov D.F. and Philipp E.I. were rewarded by the state awards respectively "For working merits" and "For faultless service of the third degree" for the first time in the history of customs.
On the 28th of December in 2007 year the primary organization of the Belarusian Republican Union of Youth (BRUY) was created in customs.

Since the 18th of November in 2008 year Bortsov Oleg Vasilyevich – the adviser of customs service of the First rank - was appointed the head of Gomel customs.

Gomel customs was reorganized by the Order of the State Customs Committee of Republic of Belarus from the 3rd of October of 2011 number 420, by accession of Mozyr customs to it.
Since the 17th of April in 2012 Yashkov Feliks Valentinovich, the adviser of customs service of the First rank, has been appointed the head of Gomel customs.

Since the 1st of May in 2013 customs officers began operational management of the public control authorities which are carrying out (conduct) transport, veterinary, phytosanitary and sanitary and quarantine control; since the 1st of January in 2014 customs officers began to carry out automobile and documentary sanitary and quarantine control.
The order of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus from the 17th of November Number 587 “The establishment of official symbols of Gomel customs” has founded the emblem and the Standard of Gomel customs.

On the 6th of May in 2015 the Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Belarus Senko Yu. A. handed out the Standard of Gomel customs in the sophisticated atmosphere.

In October of 2015 the head of Gomel customs Yashkov F.V. was granted with the gratitude of the President of the Republic of Belarus for active participation in the electoral campaign.

Today Gomel customs continues to guard economic interests of the Republic of Belarus, its activity is directed to increase the efficiency of customs control, identification of administrative offenses and smuggling, ensuring completeness of collection of customs payments, the organization of cooperation with other supervisory authorities, carrying out the filling of revenue of the republican budget.
